An evening's recap

Warning: the story includes wine (Crocodile Rock Shiraz... cheap cheap cheap, but all the rage here in the hamlet of K-town) and the very unusual claim that I was HOT, so all bets are off for tomorrow morning.
Okay, so I'm going to have one hell of a wine headache in the morning, but here goes...
Tonight was the first of the series of parties for Ray and Kim. It was a dinner party at a mutual friend's house and the theme was the holidays. People were supposed to bring an ornament or holiday decoration for their new house.
The thing started at 6:30 with drinks. Dinner was to begin at 7. I started getting ready around 4:30. I had to iron Lee's pants. I then hopped in the shower. While in the shower, I had Lee pour me a glass of wine. Mmmmmm. I got out and before my hair was dry, the glass was empty. I yelled for the "wine steward" to pour me another, lying and saying the first glass had somehow magically leaked through the glass.
I wore a black sweater, gray merino wool slacks, and heels. The sweater was unusual in that it had an Asian flair with a frog closure at the neck and details on the sleeves. Very geisha. I went with the idea.
By the time we were ready to leave, I still had not finished the 2nd glass of wine. I poured it in a to-go cup (Open Container laws be damned!) We still had to pick up Jane on the way. We arrived fashionably late at 6:50. Everyone was already there.
The guest list included the wedding party and a few extra couples. I knew most everyone and greeted them as we were going through the buffet line. I was still a little tipsy from the wine on the way over, so this usual introvert was chatty and fun.
Dinner was delish. I had two more glasses of wine. It kept the buzz going despite what little I did eat. We ate at the table with Ray and Kim and the table's conversation was fun and light.
After dinner and dessert (a compote [drunk... not sure compote is the right word] with Kahlua that I never could taste) the happy couple opened their gifts.
Of course I had agonized over what to get them. I finally settled on two holly leaves dipped in gold and tied with an attractive burgundy organza ribbon. The play on words was the main point of the gift, that Holly would always be a part of their Christmases.
Soon after, the party began breaking up. (This IS the country, you know.) We found ourselves saying goodbye and Lee asked the couple where they were going on their honeymoon. When they replied the Bahamas, I knew Lee wanted to relate our horror story of being propositioned for buying drugs when we were there. I squeezed his hand, promised a blow job in his ear if he didn't tell and smiled a 1000 watt smile. He acquiesced and we left.
It was a good evening. I probably shouldn't have sailed through it high on wine, but I really don't think my anxiety could have taken it any other way.
And I did look good. The sweater looked fabulous on me and I was having a good hair night.
Off to dream land.
Maybe if I take some aspirin now, I won't have to pay the piper later....
