(more work stuff)

They caught me first thing this morning. I barely had time to unlock the door and turn the lights on and I had one person in my office explaining the changes he wanted to make on a complicated report, one person at my door wanting the give me her schedule, and the Senior Warden wanting me to meet with the committee. It was not the calm, meditative start to the meeting I wanted to have.

I think I still have a job, at least.

They asked what about my year here has been the hardest. I replied frankly that growing thick skin has been the hardest part because people so often pick out the mistakes I make in publications (misspellings, grammar errors, etc) than praise me for the overall quality of the piece.

The hardest thing for me to hear from them in return was that I spend too much time with the people of the church. I was told it was not my job. Peter said he was disappointed to read this in my answer to his written question:
"What jobs are you routinely expected to perform, even though you believe that they should be someone else's responsibility?"

My answer:
"Currently, there is nothing that I routinely do that is also not in my job description that I am not happy to do. Copying articles for parishioners, helping in the library, handling the alarm, or pitching in on the brainstorming for decorations for a special event are all part of the ministry I enjoy performing."

He said, "Your job is the documents of the church; not the people."

Therefore, they're moving me upstairs. The pluses are that I'll have a view of the city instead of the fire escape... and a much larger office... and daily exercise of the stairwell. The minuses will be the lack of activity and interaction (but it's "not my job to interact.")

I knew any rebuttal would fall of deaf and dumb ears. They hired me to communicate. And apparently, their idea of a communicator is purely a paper pusher.

Well not that it's going to do you a lot of good, but you might mention that it's difficult to find people to have any kind of ministry who can ignore people who need assistance.

I mean, how does it sound, "I have the ministry of the hard assed bitch who just deals with the paper work and ignores people who need help when no one eles is around."

Enjoy the new view.
