Home again, home again, jiggity jog.

Lee woke me up at the ungodly hour of 7am this morning to go to his parents' house. Why 7am? I have no earthly idea. And when we got there around 9, his parents were just getting up themselves and his brother didn't emerge from his room until 10:30.

Gift unwrapping was uneventful. As a child in my orderly little youth, we'd gather around the dining room table since my grandparents were old and would rather sit there than on the floor or on the couch. The firm chair did them good. Well, we sat around the dining room table and my mom would hand each person a gift, one at a time. It was very orderly. Everyone got to see what everyone else got and stories about each gift could be told ("I waited in line for XX hours for that gift" or " I know you walked by the hiding place for that gift for a solid month!") It took several hours to go through all the gifts, but there was a togetherness that we encountered that I treasure. At Lee's house, everyone digs into their gifts, avarice and greed abound. No one knows what others get and everyone kind of gets up and goes about their own thing after the mess is made.

I did get my Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti eternal circle necklace and it's the only thing that I asked for and it's my favorite thing I got. Yay :)

When I woke up this morning, I was feeling a little sluggish. I attributed it to it being early. But as the day progressed, I never could shake the feeling. Congestion set in and my cheeks burned in combination with shivers. After lunch, I felt light headed and I went to Lee's old bedroom for a very out of the ordinary nap. I still feel like I'm fighting something, but hopefully, this is the worst it will be.

We're supposed to leave for Charleston tomorrow, but wouldn't you know we've got a winter storm warning in effect for most of the night and day tomorrow?? Snow, freezing rain, and ice until around 3pm and then the temperatures are expected to fall below 0 after 6pm, freezing any liquid left. Lee called the station to talk to the meteorologist, but even he couldn't really give us a good idea of what to expect since this storm has surprised everyone so far. I'm a good Southern girl. I know how to curtsey and make biscuits, but driving in winter weather is not my forte. We may be waylaid until Monday and I hate that.

And if you've slogged through all of this and get to here, you're a good friend. I never really had a lot of Christmas spirit this year, but I was ever mindful of the importance of friendship. Where ever you are and what ever you believe, this is the time of year to take stock and show love and appreciation. Merry Christmas to you all and I wish you all what I want: A Brave New Year.
